On People Pleasing

A great quote from one of DHH‘s latest posts:

There’s absolutely no pleasing everyone. You can’t and shouldn’t try to make everyone love you. The best you can do is make sure that they’re hating you for the right reasons.

Being a people pleaser by nature, learning the above has been tough for me.  Especially lately.

I can’t even imagine someone like you wanting this as the ultimate goal. Your DNA is your DNA. After all…

Hah, I meant “people pleaser by nature” as a “non good thing” not as an “ultimate goal”.

Making people happy is not necessarily a bad thing, but when it’s taken to the extreme, you can end up bending over backward to make someone happy that either will never be happy (because of something wrong with them) or will never be satisfied (because they take advantage of people).

Sometimes, you just have to let them go, understanding that they won’t be happy and it’s not your fault. You did all you could (or should).
